Linux picture editing programme GIMP now available for MacOS X. The main (not sure what else to put for übergeordnet) user interface is no longer there, but the main difference is that the main menu is now in a text bar or can be called up by a right-click with the mouse. The select- and montage-tools are solid, with all select-tools offered, whilst the retouch and contrast correction function are impressive. Although Gimp.app does not reach the level of professional programmes, it is still worth installing. Gimp.app requires Apple's X11, which can be found under the “optional installations” on the installation CD from MacOS X.
